Beliefs

What we believe at Fireplace Church about Jesus, the Bible, and the Church

Our Beliefs

The Bible

The Scriptures are inspired by God and declare His design and plan for mankind. (2 Tim. 3:15-17, 1 Thes. 2:13, 2 Peter 1:21)

God

There is only one true God (Deut. 6:4) revealed in three persons (2 Cor. 13:14)—Father; Son, the Lord Jesus who is fully human and fully divine (John 1:1-14); and Holy Spirit, who indwells believers (2 Tim. 1:14) and dispenses gifts to the Church (Acts 2:4, 1 Cor. 12:4).

Sin

Though originally good, man willingly fell to sin ushering evil and death, both physical and spiritual, into the world (Rom. 5:12-19). Every person can have restored fellowship with God through ‘salvation’ (trusting Christ, through faith and repentance, to be our Savior).

THE ORDINANCES

We practice two ordinances—(1) water baptism by Immersion after repenting of one’s sins and receiving Christ’s gift of salvation (Rom. 6:4), and (2) holy communion (the Lord’s Supper) as a symbolic remembrance of Christ’s suffering and death for our salvation (1 Cor. 11:26).

Sanctification

Sanctification initially occurs at salvation and is not only a declaration that a believer is holy, but also a progressive lifelong process of separating from evil as believers continually draw closer to God and become more Christ-like (Rom. 6:1-11).

THE CHURCH

The Church has a mission to seek and save all who are lost in sin (Matt. 28:19-20, Acts 1:8)We believe ‘the church’ is the body of Christ and consists of the people who, throughout time, have accepted God’s offer of redemption (regardless of religious denomination) through the sacrificial death of His son, Jesus Christ, and are led by divinely called and scripturally ordained leadership (Eph. 4:11).

Divine Healing

Divine healing of the sick is a privilege for Christians today and is provided for in Christ’s sacrificial death on the cross for our sins (Is. 53:4-5, James 4:14-16).

The End times

The second coming of Christ is a future moment in time all believers who have died will rise from their graves and will meet the Lord in the air, and Christians who are alive will be caught up with them, to be with the Lord forever (1 Thes. 4:16-17), which will user in The Millennial Reign of Christ when Jesus returns with His saints and begins His benevolent rule over earth for 1,000 years (Rev. 20:1-6). Following His millennial reign on Earth we look forward to the perfect New Heavens and a New Earth that Christ is preparing for all people, of all time, who have accepted Him (Rev.21:1-22:6). There will be a final judgment that will take place for those who have rejected Christ (Matt. 25:46, Rev. 20:11-15).
